Niche or Distribution modeling?

There is a widespread notion that "Niche Modeling" and "Distribution Modeling" are synonyms. They are not. A niche model is a model of a multivariate response curve, in a multivariate space. A distribution model is a model of a geographic region, on the earths' sphere. One can do distribution models without niches, and model response curves (niches) without mention to distributions. Or one can model niches to estimate distributions. This is what we do here.
